This course will provide an overview of Tibetan Buddhism, including its historical background, development, growth and diversity. A key focus of the course will include the basics on how Christians can engage Tibetan Buddhists.
Church Planting in Muslim Contexts MSS 643
1:00 – 5:00 p.m.
Instructor: Troy Tabor
This course will provide an overview of Buddhism, including its historical background, development, growth, and diversity. The course will examine the main beliefs and practices of Buddhists, noting similarities and critical differences with Christianity. A final focus of the course will include the basics on how Christians can engage Buddhists.
Professor Bios
JASON LOPER
- Received an MA in Theological Studies from Assemblies of God Theological Seminary (AGTS)
- Served with his wife Kristi and their four children, as an AGWM missionary in the Himalayan region for 20 years with a focus on theological education and church planting among unreached people groups with a Tibetan Buddhist worldview.
- Currently enrolled in the PhD ICS program at AGTS
TROY TABOR
- Received a BA in Bible and Missions from Trinity Bible College, and an MA in Communications from Spring Arbor University
- Has served with his wife, Lisa, in the predominantly Buddhist country of Cambodia with Assemblies of God World Missions (AGWM) since 1992
- Has developed and taught Buddhism and how to minister in a Buddhist context at The University of Valley Forge, The Romanian Center of Cross-Cultural Studies, and Global University
- Serves on the board of Change The Map, an AGWM initiative to raise up prayer support and new missionaries to reach the Buddhist world
