SPRINGFIELD, MOGrace Classical Academy is the second local Christian school to sign a formal education partnership agreement with Evangel University this summer. The agreement will benefit students, faculty and staff wishing to enroll at Evangel.

“We share a common mission with Grace, by providing a rigorous education in a Christian atmosphere,” said Chris Belcher, vice president for enrollment management at Evangel. “And like New Covenant Academy, whose partnership was announced in May, Grace students consistently perform at a high level and have been among our brightest students.”

Per the agreement, Evangel agrees to offer Grace graduates, beginning with the class of 2019, a guaranteed minimum 50 percent tuition discount to those who enroll in a traditional undergraduate program at the Springfield campus. This includes merit and other discounts.

The University will also offer the GCA students access to Evangel’s online dual and concurrent enrollment options.

Founded in 2001, Grace currently has 218 students in pre-K through 12th grade.

“Grace Classical Academy strives to train students to serve the Lord in whatever He calls them to do,” said Jennifer Morris, assistant headmaster. “What a joy it will be for more of our students to be able to graduate from here and go to a place that shares that vision!”

Benefits for adult learners, too!

Evangel’s College of Adult & Graduate Studies will waive the application fee and offer a 10 percent tuition discount for all Grace’s faculty, staff and students who enroll in an online undergraduate or master’s degree program.

“This is a great option for adults who want to complete their degree or are considering an advanced degree,” said Mark Fabian, director of digital learning.

“Plus, it helps Grace retain quality staff and faculty. We are excited for the chance to contribute to the future of GCA by educating and equipping their greatest resource — their leaders, teachers and staff.”

In return, GCA will promote Evangel University programs to its constituent base as well as the student body.

About the schools

Grace Classical Academy is an interdenominational school that offers classes for grades pre-K through 12th grade. They are located at 2438 E Cherry St. in Springfield.

GCA is a Classical Christian School. Classes are structured on the classical approach to education, emphasizing three basic phases of learning which are grammar, logic and rhetoric.

“It is our view that education should cultivate a taste for truth, virtue and beauty,” said Dr. Curt Brannan, former teacher and current board member. “We don’t tell our students they can be all they want to be — but rather that they can, and should be, all God calls them to be.”

According to school documents: “This is perhaps the oldest and most proven method of education known. Many of the founding fathers of our nation were educated using the classical approach.”

Brannan concluded, “We seek to encourage greatness in the students — the greatness of wisdom, goodness, stewardship and accountability — the greatness of embracing and rejoicing in work, recognizing work as a gift to us from our Heavenly Father.”
