SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Dr. Peggy Reed, associate professor of education, was elected secretary of the Missouri chapter of the National Association of Early Childhood Teacher Educators at their fall 2013 meeting in Jefferson City.
The position is a two-year commitment. Reed has been an active member of the organization for six years.
“As secretary, I already have had the opportunity to represent both MAECTE and Evangel University by meeting with state education officials as they consider changes to early childhood certification requirements,” Reed said. “Advocating for the best in quality teacher education benefits my students as well as the children and families they will serve in the future.”
The Missouri chapter of MAECTE has more than 100 members. The purposes of the association include advocating for improvements in early childhood teacher education, providing a communication network for early childhood teacher educators and promoting the professional growth of the membership.
“As an experienced educator and a relentless advocate for early childhood education, Dr. Reed is well-suited to provide leadership at the state level,” said Dr. Colleen Hardy, education department chair. “Her commitment to serve at such a key time in early childhood education is a reflection of her consistent dedication to high quality education, both at Evangel University and throughout the state of Missouri.”
