SPRINGFIELD, Missouri – Evangel University will host its second annual Veteran Valor Appreciation Luncheon for local veterans and active-duty service members on Friday, April 19 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in EU’s dining hall. All local current and past service members are invited to attend, and there is no cost.

The university’s morning chapel service that day will include special recognition for those who are serving or who have served in the military as well as a military panel session led by EU President Dr. Mike Rakes. The chapel service begins at 9:45 a.m. in Spence Chapel and those attending the luncheon are invited to participate.

“Veteran Valor Day is an event to not only honor our American heroes, but to pass that respect and esteem for our veterans to the students that we serve,” said Dane Moore, Evangel’s Veteran’s Center director. “As a veteran, seminary alum, and staff member of Evangel University, it is a privilege to focus our appreciation on the veterans of our community.”

EU’s campus decorated for the first Veteran Valor Day in 2023.

The university has foundational ties to the military, as its campus was built on the grounds of the O’Reilly General Hospital, a facility built during World War II to treat wounded soldiers. The university is also home to the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary, one of the largest producers of military chaplains in the nation.

“We aim to instill virtue and valor in every student at Evangel,” said Dr. Michael Kolstad, EU chief of staff. “This event is a great way to allow our students and campus community to show their appreciation to the men and women who have shown virtue and valor in their service to our country.”

Military members wishing to attend may register at evangel.edu/veteranvalorday.
