SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Murl Winters, associate library director, was honored recently by his alma mater, Southwestern Assemblies of God University, in Waxahchie, Texas.
During their Homecoming, all the librarians who have served on that campus from 1943 to the present were gathered for recognition.
Winters was presented with a plaque and a history of the university for his service to them from 1963 to 1990.
Currently, Winters enjoys assisting students and faculty at EU as they do research. He joined the Evangel faculty in 1990.
“Murl is the unsung hero of the Kendrick Library. He is very quiet and unassuming, but he is one of the best reference librarians in the business,” said Woodvall Moore, recently retired director of library and media services for Evangel.
“I often compared him to a bulldog. He would never let go until he found the answer. The library staff took delight in challenging him by giving him questions and seeing how long it took him to find the answer,” Moore continued. “I once asked him as a joke, which weighed more, the Chrysler Building or the Great Pyramid. He found the answer within an hour or so.”
Winters has earned the following academic degrees: BA, Southwestern Assemblies of God University; Summer Institute of Linguistics BSE University of Arkansas; and MLS, The University of Texas, Austin.
