EU Films to premiere “The Noble Escape”

Published on Apr 24, 2024 by Erin Hedlun

SPRINGFIELD, Missouri – EU Films, a student media group within Evangel’s Communication Department, will host a premiere of “The Noble Escape,” its latest production, on Friday, April 26. Showings are at 6 and 8 p.m. in the Barnett Recital Hall. The public is invited to attend, and admission is free.

“The Noble Escape,” a psychological thriller, follows the story of Noah Noble (Jachin Like, EU ’23) and Emma Noble (Sue Wiertzema), a married couple grieving the unexpected death of their child. Their marriage struggling, the two decide to go on a date at Close Call Escape Rooms after Emma receives an advertisement in the mail. Upon entering the room, however, dark secrets are revealed as clues are uncovered.

“I’m excited about ‘The Noble Escape’ because I know that we brought some new elements that EU Films has never had before,” said Sam Cochran, EU senior and the film’s director. “There is intense action, deep emotion, and lots of engaging visuals.”

Cochran, a previous cinematographer for EU Films, conceived the story idea for “The Noble Escape” with EU sophomore Natalie Hedgpeth. Hedgpeth, who serves as the film’s producer, cowrote the original screenplay with Jocelyn Squires, junior. Additional production staff included cinematographer Titus Smith, sophomore, and editor Jenelle Schmidly, senior.

Each semester, students in EU’s Communication Department’s Film Workshop course produce a 30-to-60-minute feature film and participate as staff, crew, and writers.

Films are supervised by Dr. Cameron Pace, executive producer and Communication Department chair. Films are premiered to the public at the end of each semester and archived on the Evangel Valor Media website for future viewing.
