SPRINGFIELD, Missouri – Construction will begin this winter on new outdoor basketball courts and communal patio seating on Evangel’s campus. The project will include the installation of a full and half Valor-themed court with nighttime lighting and concrete patio tables and chairs. The courts and seating will be erected in the open lawn space north of the student union.
This upgrade will allow students to shoot hoops at night, cheer on their favorite intramural basketball teams, and enjoy a meal outdoors with friends. The project is expected to be completed by the end of March 2022.
Valor courts is one of many renovations taking place at Evangel under the leadership of recently inaugurated President Dr. Mike Rakes.
In addition to Valor courts, a monument entry sign will be installed on Evangel’s property on the corner of Glenstone Avenue and Division Street. The student union is also getting a facelift with the addition of communal seating, charging stations, a large LED screen and stage and an abundance of Valor graphics.
Additional projects will be announced in the coming weeks.
“We want to create spaces on campus for students to enjoy community,” said Rakes. “One of my first initiatives as president is to enhance the student experience, and the construction of Valor courts, as well as other renovation and construction projects in the works, aim to do just that.”
The Valor court project will be facilitated by Dake Wells Architecture firm, based in Springfield, Missouri. The cost for the project is being covered by a generous donor.
