Pumpkin spice lattes, flannel shirts, and falling leaves mean one thing: fall has arrived! This time of year is home to a ton of fun activities in the 417 area, so here are a few highlights you might be interested in checking out.
Apple Butter Makin’ Days: Oct. 13-15
The Apple Butter Makin’ Days have been one of Missouri’s most popular festivals since it first started in 1967.
Located on the courthouse square in Mt. Vernon, it’s a bit of a drive from Evangel. But, the activities will make it worth the trip!
Fun contests like the peddle tractor and terrapin races will take you back to experience old-world charm that will be guaranteed to make you smile! Plus, there will be great food and one of the largest parades in the area held on Saturday morning. (Just be sure to get some old-fashioned apple butter while you’re there!)
Gather up a group of friends and take a day trip to have some old-time fun!
Hotel of Terror: Nightly through Oct. 31

For those of you who like to live adventurously, the Hotel of Terror is for you!
Open nightly from 7-11:30 p.m., this attraction is sure to give you the spooks.
Since opening in 1978, the Hotel of Terror prides itself as a safe place for the whole family – or as a place to drop off your kids!
Using a variety of “spooks” to give you a thrill around every corner, the Hotel of Terror is a great evening activity for you and your friends!

Harvest Fest at Rutledge-Wilson Farm Park-Weekly
For the classic fall activity seeker, Harvest Fest is a fun and family-friendly event through the month of October.
Pick your favorite pumpkin in their five-acre pumpkin patch to take home and decorate for the fall season. Then you and your friends can work to find your way out of their five-acre corn maze. Wrap up the evening by enjoying the classic hayride.
If you are looking for a night of classic fall fun, take a trip to Harvest Fest. Admission is free, but some activities do required ticket purchases. Check out prices on their Facebook page.
Spooky Symphony-Oct. 30
Here’s an event for the music lovers out there. The Springfield Symphony is performing their ninth annual Halloween concert, Spooky Symphony, on Oct. 30.
Dress up in your Halloween costume and come out to listen to a collection of spooky sounds and holiday favorites. There will be a costume contest for children, so invite your whole family and encourage little brothers and sisters to join!
Admission for the symphony is free, with tickets being available at the door that night. Doors will open at 5 p.m.
