SPRINGFIELD, Missouri – Evangel University’s Music Department will celebrate its 40th annual Christmas concert on Friday, December 6 at 7 p.m. in the Robert H. Spence Chapel on Evangel’s campus. Doors open at 6:15 p.m. The community is invited to attend.
Admission is free with the donation of a non-perishable food item and/or a monetary contribution to benefit the Salvation Army.
This year’s concert will include performances by the Evangel University Chorus, Voices of EU student-led a cappella group, Men’s Vocal Ensemble, Jazz Band, Jazz Combo, Evangel University Orchestra and Band, Women’s Chamber Ensemble, and University Chorale.
KY3 news anchor and EU alum Steve Grant will kick off the evening with introductory remarks and a brief interview with Salvation Army Major Amos Shiels to share about the organization’s work in the community.
The evening will feature Christmas music spanning a variety of styles, from classical to festive, including a performance of Elaine Hagenburg’s “Sussex Carol” by EU’s Chorus and Chorale, “This Endris Night” by the Men’s Ensemble, a lively rendition of Gavin Lindt’s “Winterscape” by the EU Band, and “Some Children See Him” by the EU Chorale.
Additional highlights include the Jazz Band’s upbeat performance of “Everybody’s Waitin’ for the Man with the Bag” arranged by Rick Stitzel and the combined choirs’ crescendo to Handel’s “Hallelujah Chorus.”
“We are thrilled to celebrate this milestone in partnership with the Salvation Army,” said Dr. Tom Matrone, EU Music Department chair. “This concert is a meaningful way for us to share the joy of the season with our community while also supporting the Salvation Army’s vital work in providing for those in need during the holidays.”
The Salvation Army’s national Christmas campaign helps provide food, clothing, toys, and other services to more than six million people each year. Proceeds from the concert will go to support these ongoing efforts.
The event will be livestreamed for those unable to attend in person.
