EU students, faculty, and staff gather on the quad to pack grocery bags for upcoming Convoy of Hope distributions.

SPRINGFIELD, Missouri – Evangel University (EU) and Convoy of Hope (COH) joined forces for the third annual Valor Volunteer Day on Wednesday, April 16 at the university. More than 350 EU students, faculty, and staff gathered in the central quad area of campus and packed over 5,000 individual grocery bags with peanut butter, Clif Bars, and other nonperishable food items.

The event was co-hosted by EU’s CROSSwalk student ministries group and the Center for Compassion, which offers a Humanitarian Relief & Development degree and promotes a theology of compassion through community engagement, a robust internship program through COH, and its degree program.

Donnie Marsh, EU director of student ministries

“Valor Volunteer Day 2024 was a successful continuation of Evangel University’s intentional efforts in the areas of compassion-focused service and community engagement,” said Donnie Marsh, director of student ministries at Evangel. “The opportunity for our campus community to engage in this type of hands-on work is so important.”

All groceries packed during the event will be distributed to more than 20 local nonprofit organizations who will distribute them to families in need in southwest Missouri.
