SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Rev. Robert M. Eby is the new director of the Cordas C. Burnett Center for Biblical Preaching at the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary in Springfield, Missouri.
Dr. Tim Hager, the dean of AGTS and vice president of Evangel University, made the announcement Monday, June 29, 2020.
“Bob is a passionate ministry leader who has dedicated his life to studying scripture and cultivating a solid theological foundation that enriches all he does,” Hager said. “He is both a preacher and a teacher, and we are confident his strong leadership skills will enhance our Center for Biblical Preaching.”
Eby is a 1996 graduate of Central Bible College and is a Ph.D. Candidate (ABD) in Biblical Interpretation and Theology at AGTS. He has held pastoral positions in three churches in Illinois, most recently serving as the lead pastor of Southwest Community Church in Shorewood, Illinois.
He will relocate to Springfield in August to accept his new role as director of the preaching center and associate professor for biblical exposition and preaching.
Eby takes over from Doug Oss, Ph.D., who founded the program in 2005.
Building on the legacy
Hager said Eby will continue to build on the center’s growth to help shape a new generation of Pentecostal ministers to preach timeless biblical truths in the United States and around the world.
“Sound, biblical preaching and faithfulness to the Bible have always been at the center of the seminary, and I’m excited about the future,” Hager said. “AGTS will continue to prepare students in new ways to preach the Good News of Jesus Christ in season and out, no matter where God takes them.”
Eby said he is excited to join the faculty and help prepare ministers to engage the world with biblical preaching.
“I am honored and deeply humbled to join in the incredible legacy of Pentecostal scholarship and ministry preparation that Evangel/AGTS represents,” Eby said. “I look forward to being part of a team that is preparing godly and skilled leaders to share the hope of the gospel of Jesus Christ with a world that desperately needs to hear it.”
The Cordas C. Burnett Center for Biblical Preaching was named for the seminary’s first executive vice president and premier Pentecostal preacher. A focus on biblical literacy, expository preaching, and sound theological understanding make the center a highlight of the seminary experience.
