This year a total of 514 degrees will be conferred at Evangel’s graduation. This includes 403 bachelor’s degrees, 73 master’s degrees and 38 associate’s degrees, 33 of which are from the James River Leadership Campus.

In addition, the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary at Evangel will confer 77 degrees during its ceremony on Saturday morning. Of those, 21 are Ph.Ds. and other doctoral degrees.

The Honorable Samuel Der-Yeghiayan

Federal judge to speak

The speaker for Evangel’s graduation will be The Honorable Samuel Der-Yeghiayan (der-YEGG-he-in), United States District Court Judge for the Northern District of Illinois. He is noteworthy of being the first Armenian immigrant Federal Judge in the history of the United States.

Der-Yeghiayan graduated from Evangel in 1975 with a B.A. in political science, and he was awarded the Distinguished Alumnus Award from the Evangel Alumni Association in 2008.

“We are honored to have Judge Der-Yeghiayan address the Class of 2015,” said Dr. Carol Taylor, president of Evangel.

“Here is a man who was born in Syria; raised in Beirut, Lebanon; educated in Springfield, Mo.; and now serves as a federal judge in Chicago. I believe he will have a message to share that our graduates will not soon forget.”
