Two students will win free trips to Africa
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Two Evangel University students will win trips to Africa, and the student body will help fund a fresh-water well in Swaziland, during a series of special missions-emphasis chapels next week at Evangel.
This school year, Evangel students are raising money to build a fresh-water well in a village in Swaziland, in partnership with the Africa Oasis Project. AOP is an aggressive effort to respond to the critical problem of inadequate and unsafe water throughout Africa.
The Evangel fundraising effort started last October, and students have already raised $3,000. Their goal is to raise $3,500 more by the end of this mission emphasis week.
The theme for the week is, “It’s Personal…” and the guest speaker will be Randy Freeman, Assemblies of God missionary to Swaziland.
Services will be held at 10 a.m., Feb. 17, 19 & 20, in the Robert H. Spence Chapel.
On Tuesday evening, Feb. 17, Evangel will also host a Q&A panel discussion with six African missionaries, from 7-8 p.m., in the chapel auditorium.
Each of these events is free and open to the public.
“We are excited about this year’s missions emphasis week,” said Dr. Emily Johns, missionary in residence at Evangel.
“Every region of the world will be represented as we strive to show our students that missions is personal, changing the world one person at a time through relationship,” she said.
The spotlighted continent this year is Africa, but all other regions of the world will be represented with displays in Evangel’s Cantrell Student Union.
Free trip to Africa
At the end of the mission emphasis week, two Evangel students will be selected for all-expenses paid service trips to Africa. A social media contest has been concocted and students will begin participating on Feb. 17.
