Evangel University Student Profile

Trevor Gies

Trevor

Class of 2010
Hometown: Ozark, Missouri
Major: Management and Marketing

Trevor found Evangel University to be the perfect place to combine his love of football with his dream to pursue a business degree. He had the opportunity this summer to further his aspirations through an NFL internship with the St. Louis Rams' Marketing Department.

Why did you choose to come to Evangel?

Football was a big reason; but there was also an atmosphere surrounding the campus, students, faculty and administration that I didn't find anywhere else.

What do you like about being an Evangel student?

You are set apart from the world — you are held at a higher standard and allowed to worship a God who created us in His image.

Did you receive financial aid?

I received financial aid from football and scholarships.

What are the benefits of attending a smaller university?

I like the small classroom sizes and how personal you can be with your professors. I also like how the campus is condensed and very easy to get around. At other universities you may have to walk 20 minutes to class, but I can wake up at 7:50 and be in class by 8.

Why did you choose your particular major?

I have been around business my entire life through my family and it was just a natural fit to be double major in management and marketing.

What’s your favorite thing about Evangel?

My favorite thing about Evangel is the homecoming football game. All of the alumni and people I have met come back and I get to play football in front of them! My freshman year I kicked the game-winning field goal and it was awesome!

What have you enjoyed about playing football at EU?

I have made life-long relationships with guys that I respect and would ask or do anything for. The team has bonded over the last three years while I've been a member and I think this next season may be a breakthrough season.

Is there anything different that stands out to you from playing for a secular high school and then coming to a place like EU?

The coaching is totally different, and the standards are set much higher. But, football is football. We still go out with the same intention of beating the other team — except at Evangel we play for a higher power.

Tell me about your internship with the Rams.

My internship with Rams all started with networking. I knew someone who knew someone else, and the doors began to open. I am very blessed with this opportunity and I thank God for opening the door. I am praying that it may turn into something in the future. I will be working in the marketing department of the Rams helping with sponsorships sales, coordinating events, etc. I will be side-by-side with the "big-wigs" and be working all through training camp in July through August. I will be assisting business partners and potential sponsors as they arrive and also help with promotional events put on by the Rams.

What are your goals after college?

My goals after college include trying my chances at the professional level of football, starting a career (hopefully with the Rams), getting married, buying a house, and letting life fall into place as God would have for me.

What does it mean to you to pursue God’s calling?

For me to pursue God's calling, it means to give Him total control and quit trying to do things on my own.

What should prospective students know about Evangel University?

Evangel teaches you how to minister no matter what field you go in. You can be a witness for Christ on the football field, the classroom, work, or in the church. You should consider Evangel not only because of the great professors, small classroom sizes, condensed campus, activities and sports, but because you will be taught valuable life skills, ethics and morals, and the ways of Christ that you may not get anywhere else!
