Last BarrackSPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Just 3-1/2 months after Evangel University’s newest building was completed, its oldest building — the last remaining WW-II barracks — will be razed, beginning at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow, July 3.

The contractors have completed asbestos abatement and all usable fixtures and furnishings have been sent to the Habitat for Humanity ReStore. “We contacted several Amish communities in hopes of having them dismantle and recycle the structure, but this facility was just too big a project for them this time of year,” says Paul K. Logsdon, director of public relations. “Not being able to find anyone to recycle the wood, the final shell will be bulldozed and hauled off.”

This building was part of the O’Reilly Army Hospital. It served through World War II as the USO and Red Cross building. From 1955-2002 it housed Evangel’s Department of Music.

Renovated in 2002, the facility was used to temporarily house a variety of departments and offices during construction projects.
