SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Woodvall Moore, director of library and media services at Evangel University, was honored with the Emily Russel award Thursday, June 11, 2009, during the Association of Christian Librarians conference, which took place at Evangel.
The Emily Russel Award is given by the ACL board of directors and is awarded based on service and professional criteria. The award has only been given 15 times in the last 25 years, the last time being in 2001.
“The prestigious Emily Russel award expresses our respect and appreciation to Woodie for his service to the Kingdom, to librarianship, and to the Association of Christian Librarians,” said Steven Preston, president of ACL from 2000-2004.
Moore has served the ACL in many capacities since 1973, including serving on four accreditation teams. He served on the board of directors from 1979 until 1986, and has hosted three annual conferences and co-hosted one. In addition, he represented Springfield to the Governor’s Conference on Libraries in 1990.
“Woodie has been a continuing encourager, evaluator and innovator before, during and after each annual conference for many years,” Preston said.
Originally from Flatwoods, Ky., Moore has worked at Evangel since 1976. As director of library and media services, he is responsible for oversight of the library, instructional resource center, and music library. He holds a B.S. from Southern Bible College (now Messenger College) and an M.L.S. from the University of Kentucky.
In addition to his work in the library, Moore teaches a workshop for faculty and staff on photography. He enjoys photography and takes many photos of team sports that are used in Evangel publications. Moore is also a certified member of the Amateur Radio Emergency Service and is trained to do storm spotting.
