SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Two Evangel University professors retired at the close of this school year and were each granted professor emeritus status, effective May 2009.
Dr. Joe BohanonDr. Joe Bohanon, professor of chemistry, served 46 years at Evangel University. He began teaching at Evangel in 1963 and served as chairman of the department of science and technology from 1989-1995.
Throughout the years, Bohanon taught a variety of courses including general chemistry, organic chemistry, quantitative analysis, physical science, inorganic chemistry, advanced organic chemistry, chemical seminar, and special problems.
Bohanon holds a Ph.D. from the University of Missouri-Rolla, an M.S. from Howard University in Washington, D.C., a B.S. in chemistry from the University of California-Los Angeles, and an A.A. from East Los Angeles Junior College.
“Dr. Bo was the toughest professor I had at Evangel,” said Dr. Marc McCorcle, ob-gyn and 1973 Evangel alumnus. “However, his strict and disciplined approach to his chemistry classes prepared me well for the rigors of medical school.
“I will always remember him as a gentle giant of a man who is dedicated to God, his family and his students.”
Joyce MooreJoyce Moore has worked at Evangel since 1986 as librarian, cataloger, and assistant professor. She received her B.S. from New Mexico Highlands University in Las Vegas, N.M., and holds an M.L.S. from Texas Women’s University in Denton.
According to Woodvall Moore, director of library services, cataloging in the Kendrick Library will never be the same without Joyce. “She was such a stickler for details that her cataloging has become the gold standard for others to emulate. However, Joyce defies the stereotypes some might imagine by bringing fun and laughter to her colleagues and others,” he said. “The best description of Joyce is that she is addicted to living joyously, excelling at her work, and consuming chocolates by the pound.”
Three additional faculty members are leaving Evangel University for other opportunities:
