Pickney to receive Alumni Association President's Award

Merwin PickneySPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Merwin Pickney, minister of administration at Woodlake Assembly of God in Tulsa, is the recipient of the Evangel University Alumni Association President’s Award for 2008.

The award will be presented October 10 during Evangel’s Homecoming chapel service.

Pickney attended Evangel University two and a half years and graduated with a degree in economics from Arkansas State University in 1968. He later earned an MBA from Missouri State University (then Southwest Missouri State University) in 1982.

Pickney also holds a specialized ministry license from the Assemblies of God and is a certified church business administrator.

After nine years in retail and financial management, he began a career spanning more than three decades as a church business administrator working for the Assemblies of God throughout the Midwest.

His posts have included Evangel Temple Christian Center, Springfield, Mo.; Illinois District Council of the Assemblies of God; and Broken Arrow Assembly of God Church and Schools, Broken Arrow, Okla.

He is past president of the National Association of Church Business Administrators and has held executive positions on several national and community boards. He is also a frequent guest speaker at local universities and denominational conferences.

Service to Evangel

Pickney’s service and commitment to Evangel is extensive. He has served in officer roles, including president, for the Tulsa Chapter of the Alumni Association. More recently, he was a member of the Evangel Alumni Board of Directors from 2001-2007 and served as president from 2005-2007.

“Merwin is highly deserving of this award,” said Chuck Cox, alumni director. “He has contributed significantly to his career, his church and to his alma mater. Everything we have asked of him he has gladly done with great skill and strong leadership.”

Pickney met his wife, Dorothy (Hubbell, Class of ’68), at Evangel. They reside in Broken Arrow, Okla. Their son and daughter are both Evangel graduates, Rod (Class of ’00) and Stephanie (Class of ’05).
