Springfield, Mo. — The Evangel University women’s basketball program announces the signing of two more players to their 2009-2010 recruiting class.
Jaquita (Jay-J) Van Buren, a 5-8 point guard from Branson High School, has signed to play for the Lady Crusaders next season. Van Buren appeared in only 14 games last season missing half of the year with an illness. She managed 5.5 points per game while shooting 49% from the field and 39% from three-point range.
“Jay-J gives us another player who can guard the ball well,” said Lady Crusaders head coach Leon Neal. “She is an adequate three-point shooter but she is someone that can shoot really well off of the dribble.”
Van Buren played for former Evangel women’s assistant Kip Bough at Branson. Bough was on the Lady Crusaders staff during Evangel’s Final Four season in 2004-2005.
Evangel also adds 6-1 center Chloe Farmer to their signing class. Famer played for the Oklahoma City Storm, a home school team that competed in Springfield last March in the national home school championship tournament. Farmer averaged 12 points, 8 rebounds and 4 blocks last season.
“Farmer brings us a player with good size,” said Neal. “She has a lot of upside and we’re looking forward to seeing her game develop in our program.”
Evangel has now signed six new players for the upcoming season in addition to Van Buren and Famer the signing class includes: Jayme Chapman (5-10, F, Jefferson City), Jessica Rumfelt (6-0, F, Bolivar), Jessica Pickett (5-8, G, Springfield – Kickapoo H.S.), and Lacey Luttrull (6-0, F, Hurst, Texas / Missouri St.-West Plains).
