Evangel Advances Past Central Methodist 62-57

Springfield, Mo. — Evangel held on for a 62-57 win over Central Methodist in the quarterfinal round of the Heart of America conference Wednesday at the Ashcroft Center.
The Lady Crusaders (21-9) led 31-27 at the half as junior guard Brianna Mingus scored 18 of her game high 27 points in the first half. Mingus was 10 for 15 from the field including 4 for 7 from three point range. The 27 points is a season high for the Rogersville native.
Ashlee Luko scored 11 of 13 points from the free throw line and Kara Blankenship added 10 points for Evangel.
Evangel won their first postseason game since 2005 in the end and ended eighth-seeded Central Methodist’s season at 10-20.
The top-seeded Lady Crusaders advanced to the semifinals Friday night where they will host fourth seed William Jewell. The Lady Cardinals won their opening round tournament game beating MidAmerica Nazarene 75-70. Game time is 7 p.m. at the Ashcroft Center.
