Department of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation

A career in physical education and health is a truly unique opportunity. Your position as a teacher or coach allows you to build your own intellectual and physical character, while being a counselor and role model to those around you. You'll need to develop a special mix of skills to serve as a coach, combined with the knowledge it takes to be a teacher.

The mission of the Evangel University Department of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation is to develop outstanding Christian leaders in teaching, coaching, recreation and health. Our students learn a value system based on spiritual concepts, while gaining physical and academic expertise through a variety of classes and sports programs.

Possibly more than any other department, our majors have the opportunity to develop a career that brings together all aspects of a happy, healthy lifestyle: physical, mental, social, emotional, ethical, and spiritual.

Majors and degrees offered

The HPER Department offers a major in Exercise Science; a major, concentration, and minor in Physical Education; a major and minor in Recreation; and a minor in health education. Majors in this department can earn a Bachelor of Science degree. Teaching certification in grades K-12 is received after the degree program and all professional education requirements have been met.
