Sample Classes
This list of classes represents a sample of several of the main areas in the department, including Exercise Science, Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Sports Administration.
- Advanced Concepts of Personal Training (EXER 376) prepares you to work as a personal trainer by bridging exercise science and the practical application skills of personal training.
- Kinesiology (EXER 441) is an in-depth examination of the muscular
workings and mechanics of the human body.
- Methods in Outdoor Education (REC 354) is an experience at the Eagle Rock wilderness campsite in Southwest Missouri. This course covers methods of teaching outdoor skills.
- Psychology of Sport and Physical Education (PHED 327) develops a basis for play and coaching, including motivation and behavior patterns.
- Sport Facility and Tournament Management (SPAD 210) explores aspects of managing facilities (funding and budget, site planning, equipment purchase and maintenance, etc.) and organizing and overseeing sports tournaments and events.
- Theory courses (PHED 342-438) develop strategy, coaching practices, and organizational techniques. The department offers theory courses in football, soccer, basketball, volleyball, track and field, and baseball and softball.
